Hi, fellow protein-deficient vegans or future protein-deficient vegans!

I’m Cassie, the creator of the recipes you’ll find on this page. My partner does all of the smart-guy web stuff – and he also has his own website https://muscledeficientvegan.com! I’m a Chemical Engineer by trade, but love cooking in my kitchen and coming up with new recipes! I also like knitting in straight lines (I can only make scarves and blankets lol), listening to music (rock and Taylor Swift), hiking and disc golfing!

I went vegetarian when I was 12 years old after a middle school teacher of mine mentioned that he was vegetarian for a few years when he was in the Peace Corps. Before then, I had never heard of or met a vegetarian and didn’t know I had a choice in whether or not I ate meat. Several years ago, I read the book “Eating Animals” and immediately went vegan after finally realizing the horrific realities of the dairy and egg industries (spreading awareness is hugely important because many people really have no idea).

When I went vegan, I had a lot of trouble finding protein-focused recipes that didn’t just rely on protein powder (I have nothing against using protein powder, I just hate the taste and texture of most protein powders)! We thought it would be funny to get the website name proteindeficientvegan.com and publish a bunch of high protein vegan recipes, so that when people searched for protein deficient vegan (likely to mock us), they would find out how easy it was to get protein as a vegan!

So, if you’re into high protein recipes, and you aren’t afraid to do kind of weird things like put TVP in your muffins or make chocolate seitan, you’ve found your place!

Also, if you’re on socials, you can find me there too! I post videos of the recipes and also about products/foods I like, and tasty places I eat. We live on the Indiana side of Chicagoland, so we eat a lot of great vegan food!
